I have been a big Beatles fan for my entire life. Every Sunday - including today! - I listen to the Beatles while I drink coffee and read the paper. One day I attended an hour-long lecture on Paul McCartney's death, and all the clues the Beatles left in their music and album artwork pointing to the cover-up. I can still probably talk for twenty minutes on the topic. This song from the White Album, when played backwards, is creepy as hell and a critical part of the cover-up.

Description

Although it took place about ten years before I was in high school, it reminds me so much of high school. The characters are all pitch perfect. The dynamic between seniors and freshman are exaggerated but spot on. Matthew McCoughney’s slimeball character who is hanging around high school long after he graduated is one of the all-time great roles. And all the different ways people mask their high school insecurities: the jocks have bravado, the stoners self-medicate, the girls flirt…and the incoming freshman are just trying to figure out where they fit in.

I was one of four friends that loved The Who. We each adopted the persona of one of the band members. I was the subdued bassist, John Entwistle. Whenever one of us heard a Who song on the radio we would race to dial the others with instructions to turn on that radio station, right away.

Description

The first Grateful Dead show I attended was in Houston on October 20, 1988. I didn't know anything about their music going in, and I was blown away by the performance. I knew "Queen Jane, Approximately" by Dylan, but other than I didn't know any songs until they got to "Hey Jude". That knocked me off my feet. The final song of the show was "Turn on Your Love Light" which remains one of my favorites. I've been a lifelong fan ever since!

Frank's the best. From the moment we started talking about the wedding, I knew this was the song I wanted for our first dance. It took some convincing for Mrs. Goodman to agree, but indeed she did.

I stumbled upon Poi Dog Pondering when they were playing on the streets of Austin. They have done lots of evolving since then, but I still love them just as much. Stephanie invited them to Phoenix to play for my 40th birthday which was a huge treat for me. This is my favorite song of theirs, including a nice interlude from the House-o-Matics.

My number one all-time favorite movie. It's a powerful (and funny) commentary on the state of our democracy that is even more true today than it was when it came out. Keep that in mind as we watch a former TV anchor run for Governor in 2022.
